In event hosting, my public health and communications background has allowed me to serve as a host on various health topics, lead group discussions, and, of course, my work in voiceover helps. Generally, I’m in my comfort zone if someone hands me a mic. In December 2023 – a turning point happened when I served as the emcee for a Sarcoma Cancer Research fundraiser. From Mastering the Mic to Mastering My Destiny: A Journey from Emceeing a Sarcoma Awareness Event to Becoming a Personality for Hire
Little did I know that this experience would catalyze a remarkable transformation, leading me to discover a new avenue for using my voice as a hired personality. The fulfilling contribution surrounding the cancer awareness event was just one of the gifts I received in return. Another was an offer from a guest at the event to discuss collaborating on a similar service to another organization in the District of Columbia Metropolitan area. I am blessed and honored by the response from many others at the event and those who saw my pre-event hosting on Facebook Live, which I feel good about and honored to have made such an impression.
I was transformed from being a "voice of hope" at the cancer awareness event to finding my unique path as a versatile and dynamic personality passionate about women's health and sharing stories encouraging others to move forward in their lives. Other skills and qualities that prepare me to speak in public are adaptability and a naturally strong connection with diverse audiences.
Establishing myself as a "personality for hire" requires several steps, including creating a compelling portfolio and building a network. In my work as a voiceover artist, networking with business clients is a great starting point, but there's still more work. If you are interested in this line of work, I suggest networking with event planners, brands, and other professionals in the entertainment industry and see where it takes you. I'll share more in this space as I pursue this capability of "using my voice."
In the grand symphony of life, my exploration from emcee to designing a harmonious blend of purpose and passion. Embracing change, discovering new avenues, and crafting a unique persona is fulfilling and has opened doors to exciting opportunities. May this story inspire others to pursue their dreams and find success in unexpected places fearlessly. I would like to learn from you a reflective moment that led you to reevaluate your career and personal goals. We can inspire others to reach out or leave our comfort zones. Please drop me a note and let me know.
